One Step at a Time…

I haven’t run more than a mile in over a year.   Yet there I was, researching training plans for half-marathons.

That was one week and 2.5 miles ago.

Last week, I created my own training plan, running three times per week, based on some of that research.  The week started at a one mile.  By the end of the week, I hit my goal of 1.5 miles.  Now, I should say that I absolutely do not “run” fast, more of a jog.  Sometimes I think that a speed walker could beat me.

I think it’s a little (or a lot) like this…

But hey, at least I’m working on it (and that little girl is so cute it is hilarious, so I’m okay with it… plus it looks like she can out run me any day).

Tuesday of this week, I hit two miles.  I called my husband in the gym parking lot to tell him my exciting news.  I even emailed my parents.  Yes, it’s only two miles, but it was MY two miles.

Today, I was at the gym first thing this morning.  Laces tied on my old running shoes, I was able to check off 2.5 miles on my training plan.

I have 18 weeks left.  I can do it.  “Slow and steady wins doesn’t die while running the race.”

My next order of business is getting an “official fitting” for a pair of running shoes.

Today’s Question:  What have you done recently that made you proud?

  1. Great question (and blog)! My cousin is a huge runner (her goal is to run a marathon in all fifty states – she is approaching her 30th) but it didn’t come with the genes! I did a 5k last year and my longest race is a 15k but with asthma it can be really difficult for me to run.

To answer your question id say recently I began exploring vegan cooking. I work out regularly but my boyfriend is a big fan of Southern cuisine and lets just say this Northern girl has been eating too much fried food and cream sauce. I always feel better when I treat my body good- as I am sure you do as made evident by this blog!

    • Wow! That is quite a goal. I don’t think I’ll ever get to that point, but I am continually impressed by people that can do that! I’m with you and loving the 5K-15K races. I’m hoping that I love Halfs just as much!

Thanks for your comment. I totally understand the extra pounds that come along when I try to eat like my husband! It just seems so unfair that he can eat like that and nothing happens to waist line, but when I do… I can feel the pounds creeping on! I guess I just have to work out extra hard when I want to feast! 🙂 Thanks again for your comment! Good luck with your vegan recipes! Let me know how it goes!
